I’m Thankful for… Screensaver Slideshows

This past Summer when we went to visit my folks — that’s Nana and Grandpa George, to you — we noted that all of their computers go into screensaver mode by starting a random slideshow of pics from their iphoto libraries. This might be old news to you… but it was a revelation for us! Upon reaching home we immediately set up our desktop computer to do the same thing.

This has had at least three effects:

  1. All of us have spent a fair amount of, shall we say, “extra time” standing in front of the computer, mouths slightly agape or in grin, eyes a-twinkle with nostalgia. Sometimes Echo wakes the computer just to be able to get away from watching the photos drifting relentlessly by and distracting her from everything else.
  2. Natalie has been re-/further inspired to consolidate all of our spurious photos into one (huge) library with only one copy of each photo. This will be much nicer than the back-up nightmare we have now wherein quite a few but not all of our photos have multiple clones in tow. I can’t believe how much I appreciate this.
  3. Both of the above two have combined to mean a heck of a lot more tender sighs, honest and sometimes teary grins, some hands thrown up to cover hearts, gleeful recollections, excited future planning, stoked love of family and partner, and an ardent desire for more children (in at least one member of our household… 😉 ).

It’s been one of the simplest ways we could have imagined to get more easy joy.

Thanks parents, Natalie, iphoto, Macintosh, various digital camera manufacturers and retailers, and ridiculously cute kids for rocking my screensaver world. You are all so cool.

Be well. I hope that you’re finding your easy blisses in this new year as well.
