9th Birthday in 3-part Harmony

Holy Time Machine, Batman! It’s already August? Well, obviously, we must be having some serious fun. And I brought proof! Here are some of the pics of Xi’s birthday celebrations this year:

Here she is folks — the 9 year old, in her natural habitat and all her age-old glory. We had a birthday party for her over a week before the exact day of her birth — in order to accommodate Xi’s desire to have Bella be at the party (and owing to Bella’s Summer schedule having her be at her other house for two weeks with Xi’s actual b-day in the middle of that stretch).

So we sent out actual invitations (a novelty for us) to a fun cross-section of Xi’s friends from our own little playgroup, from the Butterfly community, and from school. And for the 4th time in her 9 years, we all headed to Xi’s favorite splash deck in town, know simply and affectionally as The Turtles, for some serious birthday celebrating.

Here, Xi is checking out some of her birthday loot. Notice the rapt attention of her cohorts…

I know it looks like it, but this isn’t a family reunion of Natalie’s sisters and their respective families. Admittedly, though, Gabe (the far left Mama), Romy (next to Gabe with the camera), and Natalie look more like each other’s siblings than they do their own real siblings…

Another amazing cake from Natalie, made to Xi’s specifications, and decorated with flowers exclusively from our garden. This one not only had salty caramel frosting, and gluten-free innards, but also a luscious blackberry jam between the layers. I actually died from how delicious it was, but fortunately there was enough sugar in my system that I self-resucitated before anyone noticed…

After the initial presentation of the cake, we needed to exchange the flowers for candles, so we let Xi arrange them herself. Notice the rapt attention of her cohorts…

Olive, one of my best friends, was helping make sure Xi got those candles in the right spots. Most of us were jealous of Xi’s awesome silver nail polish…

Just so you know, (and I’m sure much to your chagrin) Natalie is unfortunately not available to make your cake, but you may feel free to drool over this cross-section… I can still smell the blackberry jam when I look at this.

Here, Echo, Sascha, and Elliot are watching the piñata get beat to pieces — and laughing at the hilarious piñata operator… Sorry to say, we didn’t get a single picture of the piñata or it’s operator, before the kids knocked it’s head off (the piñata, not the operator).

This is another picture from Xi’s actual birthday. The dress and All-Star Boots were some of the presents we held back from (or that arrived after) the party at the Turtles, so that she’d have something to open on her day. It’s definitely a “too-cool-for-school” kinda look, wouldn’t you say?

By the end of it all, the birthday-rich 9 year-old got to have a super-fun party with her friends, a celebration at our home with gifts from the family and special birthday meals, and then a whole other celebration when she got to her other house including a fun shopping spree with her mom. So, I’d say we made more than certain, Xideka Blue is officially 9 — whether her father believes it or not…

Hope Summer is continuing merrily along for all of you too!

Be well.
