pt III of: ‘Member When

‘Member when Coco, who was “The Champ”, got dethroned by the Red Giant?

Here she is folks, at just 9 months, Echo Manidra, “the Champ”, at the top of her game. In 2007, this feather weight dynamo was undefeated in her career, and had never met her match in the ring. With moves like Muhammad Ali, the speed of Sugar Ray, and a voice like Mike Tyson (usually provided by her father), she took the profession by storm, until…

that fateful match in January of 2008. Coco, the Champ, met the Red Giant. This colossus hailed from the Ukraine and had knocked out 70% of his opponents within the first minute. Coco, remained blissfully undaunted.

The match began well enough. The Champ got several moves in before the Red Giant knew what had happened. But what was more impressive, was how little R.G. seemed to notice the Champ’s lightning speed and strength. It was as if the Red Giant was — impervious. Then…

without warning, the Red Giant struck a heavy blow, knocking the Champ for a proverbial loop. Here, seconds after, you see Coco being shaken again by the awesome power of the Giant’s unstoppable “Steam Roller” move.

Moments after this shot was taken, the Champ, Echo Manidra, fell backward — knocked out cold — and never stepped into the ring again… The Red Giant was disqualified for using nerve-blocking drugs to enhance his pain threshold and performance. But Coco never defended her title after that fateful day.

This has been another episode of ‘Member When. Until next time, here’s hoping all your memories are good ones.

Be well.
