No Time Lost (or Wasted)

After our delicious vacation to Alabama and Florida, we had to go a full week without Bella and Xi (“it’s important to share…”). And in the interim, Echo needed us to play with her more, of course. Then yesterday, once reunited, the girls picked up almost exactly where they had left off — with one major difference…

It was immediately clear that we had been fairly lame stand-ins for Echo — and I am more than slightly embarrassed by just how clear. It was also pretty quickly obvious that Echo has crossed over, in both hers and the older sisters’ minds, into a new way of playing. They are now playing as a threesome!

Don’t get me wrong, we have loved the fact that Echo was “our little one”, and we have likewise enjoyed being her playmates when she wasn’t/isn’t able to keep up with Bella and Xi. But there is a level of satisfaction that can’t be surpassed or duplicated watching all three girls deeply involved in a pretend, clucking back and forth, discussing, planning, and executing their various fantastical scenarios. And after having watched Echo spend a good portion of the last couple years on the sidelines when Bella and Xi were deeply involved, it is a real pleasure to see her in the mix, and to hear how all three girls create together.

Now Natalie and I just have to find someone else to play with…
